Heb 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. Heb 2:10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. (KJV) And also Heb 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; Heb 2:15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. (KJV) And that this example be complete to make reconciliation between God and sinners is also written of; Heb 2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. (KJV) So that the example of obedience is complete is given, as is written also Heb 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; Heb 5:9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; (KJV) (By perfect, we mean complete, as a finished work and now in a state as one who has ceased from working.) Now the offering of beasts and cattle is not pleasurable to God and does not wash away sins. (It is rather God that forgives.) But by the word of God and the example of Christ, God has purchased an eternal redemption that can not, and is not ever bettered. It is more than appropriate. Heb 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. (KJV) For Christ will not come a second time to offer for the sins of men, since His Father's grace is clearly evidenced through His resurrection and is complete. His whole ministry is His offering to us, His obedience that to His Father. So, what of shadows and substance? Abraham when offering up Isaac to the Lord as a sacrifice in obedience offered not the life of his son, but in actuality found approval with God because the sweeter offering of his faith was better,. so that righteousness was imputed to his faith. Likewise, when a man offers for his sins it is his faith in God that his offering is acceptable, (not as a lame goat but as a spotless offering) that is his confidence - both in the promises of God and in the repentance of his person. This shows that the law approached through faith examples (that whilst) the offering of bullocks and lambs may be to sanctification, the offering of faith is better - being the true substance of the offering, rather than its shadow the blood of the animal offered. The sprinkling by Moses of blood to sanctify Israel in the old covenant is a figure of the shed blood of Christ, the final act before the new covenant is brought into force. It makes complete, (perfect) the ministry of Jesus Christ. Surly he said "It is finished". Perhaps Hebrews chapter 10 is the greatest apparent obstacle to us, taken to account to the primacy of the cross over the ministry of grace, yet hebrews shows the efficacy of the old covenant interpreted in the new by faith. It shows not that the offering of animals and blood washes away sins, or that of Christ as some grail type myths would state.. but that the offering up of Christs body has completed His obedience and now Jesus is sat down at the right hand of the Father,.. He has made a one time once for all sacrifice to God. (Not a sacrifice of sufferings and torments, but of goodness and loving kindness). A sacrifice acceptable of faith as also the faith of Abraham was also accepted. Heb 10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; Heb 10:13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. Heb 10:14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Heb 10:15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, Heb 10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; (KJV) Christ also in mediating the grace to us from the Father offered up all of us as His people with Himself in death, so that we as a people could bring to the Lord a people joined in thanksgiving for both His Christ and His mercies, which is a gift (a sacrifice) to God from Christ that we as Christ can be heirs to and be justified before Him. The thanksgiving outweighs the sin, and God has brought to Himself in Christ a people fit for being sanctified before Him. The completion of the testament of the new covenant was also sealed with the sprinkling of blood (of Christ), and the shadows of the old testament are those physical things in which men placed their faith, rather than having faith toward God, which is the substance of both new and old testaments when seen in the light of Christ. Likewise not just sanctification of the covenant is foreshadowed, but as we shall see the method of propitiation by old testament sacrifices is also a shadow of the ministry of Christ in the heavenly places between us and the Father. On the effectiveness of the new covenant, one should realise that the construction of the trinity with finite fields is an abstraction, (a mere shadow) yet we have hope in Jesus Christ, for if our salvation is merely an abstraction - we are baptised and have the Holy Spirit. The abstraction is "dead", but God and we ourselves in Him are alive in the ressurection (The substance). - If there were no resurrection why would we be baptised for the dead? Likewise we not only have hope - but the more sure word of prophecy, be it hidden in logic with the ministration of the spirit of truth, or of direct revelation by the written word of God.
